Hobson’s Summits to Focus on Bridging K12 & Higher Ed
Hobsons is hosting a series of regional Naviance Summits on the campuses of Intersect clients across the country in 2020.
ARLINGTON, VA – March, 9 2020 – Hobsons, the education technology leader and company behind Intersect and Naviance, will host a series of over 15 Naviance College, Career and Life Readiness Summits across the country in 2020. The one-day summit focuses on connecting the journey between K-12 and higher education, with the goal of further equipping district administrators and counselors with resources to support students on their journey.
Hobsons hosted their first summit on October 3rd on the campus of Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, an Intersect client, to over 200 Naviance clients. The summit included presentations by eight Naviance clients, where they shared best practices for using the Naviance College, Career and Life Readiness Framework® and how it is implemented in both middle and high schools to align with their respective Comprehensive School Counseling Plans.
“Presenting at the Hobsons Summer Institute and Hosftra summit has been a highlight of my education career,” said Jamal Walcott, assistant principal at Longwood Academy Liaison. “Unlike other conferences, Naviance by virtue connects educators on a common platform. This summit is bigger than just networking, it brings professionals into the room to discuss how to implement real, actionable goals for our students. By having the event at Hofstra, Hobsons facilitated the ability for schools in our region to connect and work together in the future. I am truly appreciative of the opportunity to work with Naviance and share a vision together.”
The summit was held in partnership with the Nassau and Western Suffolk Boards of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES), which manage over 100 school districts in Long Island. With the College, Career and Life Readiness Summit, Hobsons kicks off a series of regional events geared towards facilitating students into the path that is the best fit for their postsecondary plans.
“School counselors are such an important piece to the college admissions process, guiding the students throughout this process. When we are able to interact with them and build on the relationships that we have, we are able to work as a team to help guide the students towards selecting the right fit school for them,” said Sunil A. Samuel, assistant vice president of enrollment at Hofstra University. “Hofstra has the utmost respect for school counselors and the critical role they play in guiding students to the best-fit postsecondary path for their individual goals.”
The series will kick-off on March 10th at Lawrence Tech University for Naviance clients in the Greater Detroit area. Other host sites include: SUNY Cortland (Syracuse, NY area) and Lynn University (Ft. Lauderdale, FL area), among others.
“We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to host nearly 250 Naviance clients from the Tri State Area at our first Naviance College, Career, and Life Readiness Summit on the campus of Hofstra University,” said Monica Morrell, general manager of Naviance. “At Hobsons, we are dedicated to helping students connect learning to life. It was truly inspiring to hear how our network of administrators and counselors are using the CCLR framework to successfully guide their students from middle and high school through postsecondary education and into the workforce. We’re looking forward to hosting over 15 summits for Naviance clients throughout 2020 on the campuses of our Intersect clients across the country in an effort to further connect K-12 and higher education.”
