Ramapo College of New Jersey was a 2016 recipient of the Hobsons Education Advances Award. The public liberal arts college has always been committed to individualized attention, hands-on learning, and student mentoring, but their previous model of student success consisted of three separate offices that often worked in silos.

Following their first year of Starfish implementation in 2013, the number of academic at-risk students meeting with their advisor to resolve concerns before they registered for classes increased by 10 percent. Other key takeaways include:

  • Ramapo’s Center for Student Success strategically increased the one-year retention rate of our transfer students over the last five years from 76% to 84%
  • 70% of the college’s transfer students begin work with a transfer advisor at their county college before they transfer to Ramapo
  • Achieving an 88% percent retention rate and a 74.3 percent six-year graduation rate, both well above the national average.
