Starfish by Hobsons Named CODiE Finalist in SIIA 2016 Awards

Best Education Cloud-based Solution category recognizes innovation in tools that provide faculty, administration, and students with ubiquitous access to support services

Arlington, Va. (April 25, 2016) – Starfish by Hobsons, the leading enterprise student success platform used by millions of students at more than 200 colleges and universities, has been named as a finalist in the 2016 SIIA CODiE Awards. The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier awards for the software and information industries, and have been recognizing product excellence for more than 30 years. Finalists represent innovative technologies that are helping colleges and universities to improve outcomes for students.

Starfish by Hobsons was named as one of eight finalists in the category of Best Education Cloud-based Solution.

“We are honored to be recognized by SIIA, and believe this is a testament to our college and university partners who have helped us to grow our capabilities and create a thriving, informed community of practice,” said David Yaskin, Starfish founder and Senior Vice President of Student Success at Hobsons. “For students, life happens every day, so we’re pleased to help our community efficiently address the new challenges and opportunities as students experience them.”

As colleges and universities place a renewed focus on college completion, particularly for historically underserved students, data-informed academic advising is critical to ensuring that students receive personalized guidance to stay on track toward graduation. The Starfish platform makes it easier for college advisors, faculty, and administrators to identify and intervene with struggling students, and to positively reinforce students who are on the path to success. The platform also helps higher ed decision makers assess which interventions are helping students progress, and scale initiatives that are moving the needle.

“Every year the list of CODIE finalists is a case study of how the ed tech industry is using new technologies in combination with knowledge about how people learn to respond to customer needs. They’re opening doors for learners of all ages,” said Karen Billings, Vice President and Managing Director of SIIA’s Education Technology Industry Network (ETIN).

The SIIA CODiE Awards are the industry's only peer-reviewed awards program. The first-round review of nominees is conducted by software and business technology executives with considerable industry expertise, including members of the industry, analysts, media, bloggers, bankers, and investors. The judges are responsible for selecting the CODiE Awards finalists. SIIA members then vote on the finalists’ products and the scores from both rounds are tabulated to select the winners.

Winners will be announced during a virtual award ceremony on May 18.
