Starfish by Hobsons Renews Commitment to Student Engagement Through Product Updates
New Mobile Workflows and Student Engagement Tools Unveiled at Hobsons Summer Institute 2018
PALM DESERT, CA - July 17, 2018 - Hobsons, the education technology leader and company behind Starfish, today announces a renewed commitment to increasing student engagement through updates and new features to the Starfish platform.
Three product updates and new features include the release of a Mobile Student Experience within the Starfish Enterprise Success Platform, integrated Career Exploration tools, and the ability for students to directly register for courses as part of their academic plans.
The new capabilities, announced to more than 1,000 attendees at Hobsons Summer Institute 2018, are cornerstones of a series of workflows designed to eliminate momentum barriers and facilitate student engagement.
The enhanced mobile interface helps students connect with their campus community more easily through their smartphone to:
- Quickly browse a personalized catalogue of helpful people and services
- View available times to connect with resources, either virtually or in-person
- Schedule an appointment to ask a question, resolve a concern, or take a next step
- Call a resource directly with a single click
“In order to remove obstacles to student engagement, you need to make sure your technology is available to any student, any time, on any device,” said Howard Bell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Starfish. “We have had mobile-responsive design for some time, but this important step in our development reduces the number of clicks and streamlines the student experience.”
In addition, Starfish’s partnership with PAIRIN delivers a Career Exploration tool matching students to careers that align with their soft skills, work experience, and the current labor market demands. Using this insight students develop an academic plan that meets the requirements of their institution and puts them on a path towards their desired career. By adding course registration to the academic planning workflow within Starfish Degree Planner, institutions can eliminate the extra steps that might delay and deter students from completing the process.
The Starfish Enterprise Success Platform helps more than 450 colleges and universities scale their student success efforts so more students can achieve their academic and life goals. By helping higher education institutions leverage reliable data to pinpoint areas of concern and opportunity within courses and student populations, as well as institutional programs and services, Starfish connects these findings to action by identifying at-risk students, connecting students with valuable resources, and building academic plans to achieve student goals with the least momentum lost.
