Hobsons Announces Completion of 2019 Internship Program
20 college students wrapped up a 10-week summer internship program with the education technology leader this week
ARLINGTON, Va. – August 28, 2019 - Hobsons, the leader in education technology and company behind Naviance, Intersect, and Starfish, announced today the culmination and success of its 2019 Summer Internship Program. Across Hobsons’ Arlington and Cincinnati office locations, 20 college students gained firsthand experience over 10 weeks, working in various departments across all three product lines.
Each Hobsons intern completed a capstone project for the duration of the program which was accompanied by a presentation to Hobsons’ leadership. “We are excited to provide a learning opportunity and growth experience for our talented college students and are proud of their hard work and contributions to Hobsons this summer,” said CEO Kate Cassino. “Our mission is to connect learning to life, and we strive to help students grow and realize their remarkable capabilities.”
Over the last 4 years, Hobsons has brought in over 60 interns from nearly 40 higher education institutions to acquire knowledge within potential career fields over their summer break. The interns are provided the opportunity to significantly contribute to projects aligned to their coursework and career interests and to Hobsons’ mission. “I am most proud of the impact I made to the enterprise sales team,” remarked Courtlyn Patrick, sales intern for Naviance and rising senior at Florida A&M University. “I came up with and implemented several ideas to help the team meet their goals,” added Patrick.
A primary takeaway for students is to use their experiences obtained to discover if the department or position of their internship is the best fit pathway for their future. Starfish product management intern Arianna Mohseni added, “I was able to learn that I enjoyed product development and design a lot and that I want to pursue them after I graduate from college.” Mohseni will begin her final year at Penn State University this month.
Not only are interns learning about their potential future industry, but they are also exposed to a workplace environment where frequent collaboration with team members further develops and strengthens their interpersonal skills. Naviance marketing intern Joseph Shomaker remarked, “I have never had an experience where I work in an office environment, collaborating closely with others. My time at Hobsons improved not only my knowledge of marketing but my communication and problem-solving abilities as well.” Shomaker is entering his junior year at High Point University this fall.
Hobsons’ Summer Internship Program supports its vision for a world where education advances individuals to meet their full potential. Intersect product management intern Claire Mendelson spent her second consecutive summer interning for Hobsons this year and will be graduating from the University of Richmond next spring. When reflecting on her 10 weeks in Hobsons’ Arlington office, Mendelson stated, “Education is something I’m passionate about and it was inspiring to come into the office every day and be surrounded by people who are so committed to developing products to help students on their educational journey.”
