Big Bend Community College Selects Starfish by Hobsons as Exclusive Student Success Platform
ARLINGTON, Va. – October 9, 2019 – Hobsons, the education technology leader and company behind Starfish, today announced that Big Bend Community College (BBCC) has chosen to collaborate with Hobson’s Starfish Enterprise Success Platform in order to increase retention and graduation rates on their campus. With the addition of Big Bend, Starfish will expand its reach in Washington State to nine institutions across 12 campuses.
“We are honored to partner with Big Bend in their effort to increase three-year graduation rates and student retention rates,” said Howard Bell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Starfish. “Big Bend recognizes the value of predictive analytics and the role it can play in increasing student success and persistence, and we look forward to working with their passionate team.”
With Starfish, Big Bend will increase workflow efficiencies to create a deep network of student support systems to provide whatever resources they require at their time of need. One of the main goals of the college is to close the achievement gap between Asian and Caucasian students and students from Historically Underrepresented Groups. With increased capacity to identify students who are struggling, Big Bend CC will be able to intervene and get students back on the track to success more efficiently and effectively than ever before.
“At Big Bend, we believe that education is the greatest mechanism for social mobility. This tool will greatly increase access to and attainment of it,” said BBCC Director, Transforming STEM Pathways Grant Rafael Villalobos, Jr. “With the implementation of Starfish, we will be able to better engage students and increase our community’s support system to close the achievement gap and increase student success rates across campus.”
Starfish will be integrating systems at Big Bend in the fall of 2019 with select pilots rolling out winter 2020. The platform will help support approximately 4000 students on main-campus and multiple rural Learning Centers across the College’s 4600 square mile service district, the largest amongst all 34 Community and Technical Colleges in the state.
Starfish is the most widely adopted student success solutions technology in country, with over 4.5 million active students across 500 institutions and systems. The platform offers an integrated, comprehensive, student-centered success solution for college and university students.
