This week, AASA, The School Superintendent’s Association, will bring thousands of education leaders together at the 2016 National Conference on Education (NCE) in Phoenix, Ariz., for several days of inspiring speakers, challenging forums, and peer exchange.

Hobsons is a proud partner of AASA and sponsor of NCE 2016. Through our partnership, we work directly with key decision-makers and influencers in K-12 education to advance our shared goals of providing students with equal access to high quality educational opportunities. We look forward to participating in a variety of activities with AASA and its members this week before and during the conference:

National Superintendent Certification Program

AASA’s Superintendent Certification Program provides a robust experience that focuses on sharpening the skills that successful superintendents acknowledge are needed to thrive on the job. Hobsons is proud to support this work and to participate in each of the cohort meetings that take place over the course of the program, including the meetings taking place in Phoenix this week.

Superintendent Collaborative Meeting

The AASA Collaborative, of which Hobsons is a member, is a network of superintendents and other educational leaders from across the country who help improve schools and help AASA members thrive on the job. We look forward to participating in a presentation about the Collaborative during NCE 2016.

Superintendent Research Roundtable

Hobsons also participates in AASA’s Superintendents Research Roundtable program, which takes place just prior to NCE 2016. We will facilitate an interactive discussion with a group of veteran superintendents, cabinet members, and school system leaders to share best practices and innovative solutions, and explore new ways to make significant contributions to educating children across the United States.

Individualized Learning Plans

Hobsons will deliver two general sessions at this year’s conference. The first, High School Individualized Learning Plans: State Requirements and Counseling Practices, is an overview of the NACAC and Hobsons study on individualized learning plans throughout the United States. Melissa Clinedinst, Associate Director of Research at NACAC, will share methodology, results, and implications from the recent study, and Dr. James Lee, Superintendent of Paradise Valley School District in Arizona, will discuss implementation of individualized learning plans in his district. Friday, February 12, 2:45 p.m., Phoenix Convention Center 125A

Increasing Postsecondary Access

In the second session, Increasing Access: Creating Postsecondary Opportunities for High School Students, Stephen M. Smith, Hobsons’ President of Advising and Admissions, will moderate a discussion on how school districts and community colleges are working together on access and student transitions. Dr. Jamie Wilson, Superintendent of Denton ISD in Texas, and Veronica Garcia, Paradise Valley Community College in Arizona, will share details about the partnerships they have built to create opportunities for students to experience college while still in high school and to succeed once they arrive on campus. Friday, February 12, 4 p.m., Phoenix Convention Center 126B

Hobsons’ partners are an integral part of our mission to empower students to connect learning to life across the student lifecycle. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with AASA and to participate in the 2016 National Conference of Education. If you’re attending NCE, please stop by the Hobsons booth #901. We’d love to connect with you!
