Naviance Summer Institute (NSI) is the annual gathering of Naviance Network members. In our special blog series, My NSI, past attendees share their thoughts, insights, and stories about the conference. NSI 2015 will be held July 6-9 at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, Arizona.
John F. Kennedy once said, “The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth.” On a basic level, I look forward to attending Naviance Summer Institute (NSI) because the event helps me become better at what I do, and broadens my knowledge and education so that I have a greater impact on the children at St. Aloysius Orphanage in Cincinnati, OH. However, when I really think about it, here is a deeper look at what I’ve gained from participating in Naviance Summer Institute.
Each year, I’ve brought home new information that has broadened my knowledge and understanding of what’s happening in the education arena. At NSI, I’ve heard experts in the field discuss new research on how our young people are thinking, new tools being used, and updated materials and advice that impact how children are taught and how they learn. Furthermore, I’ve had the chance to speak with presenters one-on-one about projects they’re working on and how they’re impacting their school systems.
Each of the different presenters have inspired and motivated me in different ways. But, one of the things I always look forward to at Naviance Summer Institute is the keynote speaker. I’ve always walked away from the keynote presentation saying, “wow that was motivating and informative.” The presentations are engaging and I find myself always wanting more.
Not only is NSI a place to learn from my colleagues, but also an opportunity to share my own expertise with others in the field. Much of the content at NSI is driven by members of the Naviance Network. I‘ve had the opportunity to conduct presentations and share with others what I’ve learned, as well as what I hope to learn in the future. These opportunities have offered credibility to my value in the community and my organization.
Attending Naviance Summer Institute has brought me greater expertise both in my discipline and outside my field. The conference has offered professional development opportunities, including chances to get involved in multidisciplinary projects. And, through all of these experiences, the information I’ve learned is relevant, smart, and competitive in the education market.
Naviance Summer Institute it is the perfect opportunity to build and expand your network. People come from so many geographical areas and I’ve made connections with attendees from a wide range of backgrounds. I love meeting in person with people that I’ve known for years and catching up on what’s going on with them. NSI is also a great opportunity to find potential collaborators, committee members, or partners that can support you and help you have a greater impact on your school, district, or education community.
Whatever your reasons for attending Naviance Summer Institute – representing your educational community or organization, presenting a great product, professional development, or networking – NSI provides the platform to help you be successful.
