We all know our profession is about relationship building and that is exactly how I’ve made the most of my Hobson University experiences. When you truly listen to other attendees about their challenges and/or successes with Hobsons products, it allows for a professional connection that is more valuable than you could possibly imagine.
My first Hobsons University was in 2013 and I was able to meet and connect with so many individuals in the field. Not only was I able to hone in on best practices and increase my professional network, but the educational sessions helped strengthen my skillset using the ApplyYourself and Connect tools. I learned so much about the products and for the first time since I began using them, I really felt like I got it.
Despite the positive experience I had in 2013, I felt like something was missing. Other conferences I had attended in my higher ed career had a lot of involvement from attendees pre-conference. So, I decided to bite the bullet and suggest to Hobsons leadership to give attendees an opportunity to have some ownership and participation in the conference planning. I am happy to report, this suggestion ended up landing me and four of my colleagues from around the country a spot on the educational session review board for Hobsons University 2014. Score!
The experience working with Hobsons leadership and other like-minded individuals was incredible. It was such an honor to learn from all of the proposals about how other institutions were utilizing Hobsons products. It also allowed me the opportunity to work with another colleague on a proposal of our own regarding the AppReview product. Presenting at Hobsons University 2014 was a great experience and it felt good to be one of those imparting knowledge to fellow attendees!
I plan to return to Hobsons University in 2015 to continue building on the great foundation that has been laid for me in 2013 and 2014. My advice: remember to absorb knowledge like a sponge, participate in everything you can, and above all else, network like a rock star!
