With the growing complexity of the world and the increasing demands on the workforce, there is little question that all students should graduate from high school fully prepared to continue their education. Naviance by Hobsons offers tools to support the alignment of student strengths and interests to post-secondary goals, and to help schools and district administrators monitor progress and track student outcomes. 

To help Naviance users develop their understanding of the platform, Hobsons created Naviance User Groups to connect Naviance users and facilitate learning from one another. Naviance User Groups are regional meet-ups of counselors, administrators, teachers, college and career center directors, and others focused on student success. What started out as an idea has grown into a community of more than a dozen Naviance User Groups in 10 states!

While there are many benefits to joining a Naviance User Group, here are the top five reasons why you should join (or launch!) a group in your area.

1. Expand Your Network

When attending a Naviance User Group, you are bound to meet someone new. A user group is a great way to expand your professional network, which is helpful when you have a quick question -- about Naviance or anything else in your field – or when you need to share resources or just want to relate to someone else in your shoes!

2. Learn Something New

Even those who have used Naviance for years are excited to take away new pieces of knowledge from user groups. New procedures for tracking transcripts, new classroom activities, and even new ways to encourage parents to get involved with Naviance are common takeaways from user groups.

3. Share Your Knowledge

Whether you know it or not, you are an expert. Naviance user groups offer an opportunity for you to share what you know, whether you’re a seasoned counselor who has been in the trenches or are new to the field and equipped with some helpful hints. Sharing your best practices helps others build their programs and helps you refine yours!

4. Use Teamwork to Solve Problems

Your new network can help you solve problems and resolve issues you’ve been facing. At a recent user group, a local Naviance Network brainstormed how to engage parents and students more effectively using Naviance. Through discussing workflow, they came to a solution that helps many schools to move forward successfully.

5. Have Fun!

Naviance User Groups offer the opportunity to step outside of the duties of the school day. Naviance users comment that a user group is a great way to focus on planning a strategy to help students by meeting with their team and others with a common interest. Throughout the process, Naviance users laugh, have fun, and walk away energized by their experience.

Most user groups also meet virtually via the Naviance Network online community. To find out if a user group is active in your area, look for your region in the Naviance Network community. Stop in, introduce yourself, and subscribe to updates.
