The 2017 Hobsons Education Advances Awards are now open for nominations. Hobsons product users are encouraged to submit an application nominating their own institution (or other institutions) for awards in the categories of K-12 College and Career Readiness, College Admissions and Enrollment, and higher ed Student Success and Advising. Each award winner, selected by a panel of prestigious, independent judges, will receive $2,500 for their institution, while two finalists in each category will receive $1,000 each for their institutions.
Here’s a look at our panel of judges within the field of admissions and enrollment.
Dr. Tom Green brings over 30 years of strategic enrollment manangement experience and expertise to AACRAO Consulting. He served as dean or vice president of enrollment management at a number of private and public institutions. Dr. Green led admissions, financial aid, registrar, student accounts, academic advising and support, adult re-entry services and one-stop shop areas, twice serving as director of financial aid. His expertise in SEM planning, recruitment techniques, enrollment marketing and communications, financial aid analysis and resource utilization and student success techniques resulted in enrollment increases, improvements in student profile and retention rates, as well as net revenue.
In 2006, Dr. Green joined AACRAO Consulting and since 2008 has devoted his career full-time to helping institutions reach their enrollment goals. His work has included both private and public institutions, from small private colleges to public flagships, from rural to highly urban, and specializations such as online programs, law schools, Hispanic Serving Institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. His consultations have been performed in every region of the United States, in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Middle East and in Eastern Europe.
Tom Green holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree from the American Conservatory of Music, where he later began his academic career as a faculty member in music performance, and a Ph.D. in higher education leadership, management and policy from Seton Hall University. He is a frequent speaker and workshop leader at national conferences and has published articles and book chapters on a wide variety of SEM issues. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of SEM Quartlerly, AACRAO’s peer-reviewed journal of research and practice in the field
Jerome A. (Jerry) Lucido is Associate Dean for Strategic Enrollment Services at the Rossier School of Education, professor of research, and executive director and founder of the USC Center for Enrollment Research, Policy, and Practice at the University of Southern California. Among his activities as professor and center director, Dr. Lucido designed and teaches in the USC Leadership in Enrollment Management program, initiated the Southern California College Advising Corps, conducts research in the areas of admission and enrollment management, and hosts an annual conference for admission and enrollment professionals.
Prior to joining the faculty, he served as USC’s Vice Provost for Enrollment Policy and Management, responsible for undergraduate and graduate admission, academic records and registration, graduation rates initiatives, and overall enrollment policy and planning. He is a recent past trustee of the College Board, served as chair of the College Board’s Task Force on College Admission in the 21st Century, and as vice chair of the Commission on Access, Admission, and Success in Higher Education. He has played a leading role at the national level in initiatives to improve access for low-income and underrepresented students and to design and execute effective and principled college admission and enrollment management practices. Dr. Lucido came to USC from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he has also led the enrollment effort at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.
Executive Director Jenny Rickard joined The Common Application in August, 2016. Her expertise embodies each area of college enrollment management, including admission, marketing communications, technology, and financial aid. Ms. Rickard has shown a strong commitment to access as evidenced by her accomplishments as the chief enrollment officer at both the University of Puget Sound and Bryn Mawr and in admission roles at Swarthmore and New York University School of Law. Her extensive service within the national higher education community includes a wide range of roles with the College Board, Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS), US Department of Education, and The Common Application Board of Directors, serving as Board President in 2007. Within the corporate field, Ms. Rickard was a vice president responsible for higher education product strategy at PeopleSoft. She also was a consultant for the higher education software company Datatel and started her career on Wall Street at J.P. Morgan & Co.
Ms. Rickard received a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania; a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University, Stern School of Business; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Swarthmore College.
