We’re thrilled to announce that educator and New York Times best-selling author Jessica Lahey is our keynote speaker for the 2017 Naviance Summer Institute.

Lahey is a teacher, writer, and mom. She writes about education, parenting, and child welfare for The Atlantic, Vermont Public Radio, and The New York Times and is the author of the best-selling book, The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed.

In The Gift of Failure, Lahey explores the best ways to motivate students to own their education, learn deeply and durably, and develop resilience. She summarizes the current research on autonomy-supportive parenting and teaching, competence, rewards, praise, and failure. And, she explains how parents and educators can give students the support and encouragement they need in order to stay motivated over the long term.

Lahey discusses how letting children fail can be good thing in an episode of Upgraded by Hobsons:

NSI attendees can look forward to hearing from Lahey during her keynote presentation and Q&A session, as well as participate in a book signing and attend a separate conference session led by Lahey.
