Hobsons 10 Year Anniversary: Adopt a Class Program
As a leader in education technology, Hobsons impacts millions of students across the United States each day through its three online solutions, Naviance, Intersect and Starfish. In addition to supporting students via its solutions, Hobsons employees enjoy extending their reach to education-related organizations in our communities.
Since 2009, employees at Hobsons headquarters in Cincinnati have participated in an “Adopt a Class” program with Cincinnati Public Schools. This year, Hobsons “adopted” a sixth-grade class at John P. Parker Elementary School. Through this program, Hobsons employees serve as mentors to the 6th grade class and visit monthly, often incorporating Hobsons solutions into their visits to encourage the students to begin thinking about their path through high school, college and career.
In the spirit of Hobsons’ mission to connect learning to life and bridge the gap between K-12 and higher education, Hobsons staff recently took 60 sixth-grade students to spend the day on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. The students went on a campus tour (a first for many of the young students), spoke to a panel of current college students, had lunch in the university dining hall, and completed assessments in Naviance, Hobsons’ college, career and life readiness solution geared towards K-12 students.
By the end of the day, all 60 students had completed the StrengthsExplorer assessment in Naviance, which helps students understand their top-three personality strengths. While the sixth graders do not currently use Naviance at their elementary school, Hobsons partnered with Cincinnati Public Schools to ensure that the assessments completed in Naviance while on the outing would be included in their Naviance accounts at their next school.
