Using ActiveMatch to promote the university within Naviance has given UCSB the opportunity to connect with many students who are potentially a good fit. “We’re able to pinpoint areas and individuals who can see themselves at UCSB,” said Cuca Acosta, Associate Director. In recent years, as the university has incorporated more in-state recruitment, Ms. Acosta noted, “We could reconnect with students in our own back yard. That was the hidden gem.”
Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) is a high-achieving district in Michigan, with college enrollment rates of 79 percent (well above the national average of 69 percent) and four-year graduation rates of 89 percent (well above the state average of 82 percent).

Helena College University of Montana is a public two-year college focused on providing access to lifelong educational opportunities. Central to its mission is enhancing student persistence by aligning student support programs and reducing barriers to access and success.
To retain students, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) had to transform the advising culture. A committee of faculty, staff, and academic leaders chose the Starfish by Hobsons platform because of its early warning system and easy user interface.
Youngstown State University (YSU) needed a user-friendly online system with the ability for all stakeholders to access the same information in a central place. The system needed to complement their academic support procedures. YSU chose Starfish by Hobsons and it went live in 2012.
The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) is a public university serving more than 5,000 students in 23 undergraduate programs. Formerly an upper-division campus, the institution opened its doors to freshmen and sophomores for the first time in 2001.
Studies show that parent involvement in a student’s education can be one of the biggest factors affecting success during and after high school. And while critically important, schools often struggle to get parents involved. Limited staff time, a lack of resources to provide parents, or uncertainty about how to engage families are just a few contributing factors. One district in Connecticut, however, has seen success in fostering collaboration and engaging parents using the college and career planning and scholarship search tools included in Naviance.
When Colorado enacted a requirement in 2009 that required all students in grades 9-12 to create and manage an Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP), Jeffco turned to Naviance – a one-stop solution that brings all the pieces of an effective college and career readiness program together.
Before implementing Naviance, Boothbay had a 52% college application rate. Through the use of Naviance’s college search and application tools, they saw an increase to 94% of seniors applying to college, an 80% increase in one year.
Since implementing Naviance, Adams 12 increased its graduation rate by 12%, and data collected through Naviance helped the district justify spending to restore counseling positions that had been lost due to budget cuts.
Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas has over 3,400 students and nearly 1,500 of them participate in Spartans Out Serving or “SOS,” a voluntary community service club. Community service is deeply ingrained into the school’s culture. Over half of the student body participates in SOS and this year, almost 800 students met their service goals. For seniors, that means 60 hours of effort is rewarded with coveted white cords at graduation.
Like most schools, High Tech High in San Diego is under an enormous burden to submit transcripts and other forms to colleges as its seniors navigate the application process each year. Before going digital, the counseling office relied on the only method it had: mailing paper packets filled with transcripts, school profiles, and teacher recommendations. High Tech High also printed and mailed a second or third round of transcripts, translating into countless hours of staff time and thousands of dollars in postage and supplies.
After implementing Naviance, Yonkers Public Schools now has the ability to measure the impact their programs have on student success. In 2008, prior to the full adoption of Naviance, college-going intentions for seniors was 67%. In 2012, close to 91% of YPS seniors applied to colleges and 76% of seniors intended to enroll in four- or two–year colleges. Since using Naviance scholarship tools, YPS has more than doubled financial aid and scholarship awards from $23 million in 2010 to over $49 million in 2012. YPS attributes these increases to the variety of college- and career-readiness programs offered as well as improved student awareness of opportunities and resources available made possible by Naviance.
