Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) was established in 1962 for students in Florida’s Lake and Sumter Counties. It has since grown into a three-campus institution serving over 7,500 students in over 30 degree, certificate and diploma programs.
Wofford College had three strategic motivations for implementing a retention software in Spring 2015. They had just launched a First-Year Experience course that required early alert technology, was going through a strategic visioning process that looked beyond graduation rates to the quality of a student’s experience, and a Quality Enhancement Plan that required a student success team to be built.
Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, SC. Wofford serves over 1,500 students and boasts one of the highest freshman retention rates among the nation’s liberal arts colleges. At the center of their success is Wofford’s promise that every college employee, regardless of their job or title, puts student success first.
Dutchess CC is one of 30 community colleges within the State University of New York system. DCC serves a wide range of more than 9,000 students, some of who were at the top of their class, and some of who struggled through school. DCC offers the lowest tuition per semester in the state of New York, and is wholly committed to student success.
Syracuse’s varied services not only accommodate individuals with disabilities, but also recognize their potential to excel in both educational and career opportunities. “Accessibility and inclusion are part of the fiber of Syracuse University, and that must carry through to the information and communication technology that we provide to all campus constituents,” said Samuel Scozzafava, VP for Information Technology and CIO.
Prior to implementing Starfish solutions in 2012, UMass Lowell had only limited communication systems to achieve student success. After discovering Starfish at a conference in 2011, UMass Lowell introduced and implemented the solution in Fall 2012. Early adopters quickly discovered it could automate their attendance tracking while reducing the potential for errors.
Syracuse University is a private research university in the heart of New York State, offering a choice of more than 200 majors for 15,000 undergraduates and 7,000 graduate students. The university boasts high graduation and retention rates, including a 69% 4-year graduation rate and 80% 6-year graduation rate for the 2008 student cohort.
Brockport set out to use Starfish solutions in 2017 with the goal of establishing a culture in which students instinctively reach out for assistance and get it quickly and easily in order to achieve the university’s student success goals.

After making college and career readiness their top priority, Aptos High School staff and administrators decided to implement Naviance. By working with their Naviance consultant, Aptos had counselors trained, data in place, and provided teachers access by the first day of the school year. Their main goals included assisting seniors in their college research and planning, and allowing freshman immediate access to Naviance to receive its benefits throughout all four years. By January of 2017, Aptos High School had all grade levels accessing Naviance regularly, exceeding their goals for the entire school year.
In order to support their mission of supporting “every learner in the quest to realize his or her full potential,” Berkley SD decided to use Naviance to streamline their college and career readiness initiatives.
After a successful pilot program, Eugene School District extended Naviance to their other schools in order to create a cohesive college and career readiness plan across the district.
