DevOps Engineer


Job Summary

Are you a Developer with a desire to do more Operations work?  Are you a Systems Engineer who likes to code on the side?  Then this DevOps Engineer role is a perfect opportunity for you to make a difference in operations with all the ideas you have as a Developer.  We are looking for an engineer to focus on automating deployment of applications in Amazon Web Services. Responsibilities include designing and developing CI pipelines to build and deploy software packages using automated tools.

This position will be located in: Arlington, VA

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • DevOPS engineer able to deliver innovative solutions
  • Able to give technical guidance to team members and development/QA stakeholders
  • Develop automated scripts for packaging software
  • Develop automated scripts to deploy packaged software
  • Support multiple target environments using similar automation and methodology: Development, QA, Staging and Production.
  • Work with Development and Product teams on considerations for designing operationally smart applications for deployment in cloud environments, focusing on performance, security and budgeting
  • Ensure all cloud deployments follow established workflows.
  • Manage deployment and validation of patches.
  • Experience working with Windows and Linux systems in a production setting.
  • Must have work experience with monitoring tools and APMs such as nagios, LogicMonitor, New Relic, AppDynamic, DataDog or similar
  • Proactively adopt new cloud infrastructure and technology
  • Desire to work on Docker, Mesos, HBase, Hadoop, Kafka or similar.
  • Manage environments in multiple AWS accounts to ensure optimal capacity, performance, security and availability.
  • Must have working knowledge of handling Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity in AWS.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in software design/development and/or operations.
  • Background in Development, Systems Architecture, and/or Operations.
  • Experience hosting applications in AWS.
  • Working experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, Cloud Formation or similar 
  • Scripting experience in Bash, Ruby, Python or similar.
  • Experience with Source Control systems, such as GIT and SVN.
  • Experience with software build and deploy tools such as Jenkins, CircleCI, Gradle, Ant, Maven, Artifactory, CodeDeploy, etc.
  • Work experience deploying web and application servers – Apache, PHP, Tomcat, Nginx, Node.js, etc.
  • Experience with database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.  
  • Background in Development, Systems Architecture, and/or Operations.
  • Working knowledge of DNS, Monitoring, SSL Certificates, File Servers, Security, Performance, High Availability, Redundancy and Disaster Recovery.
  • Working knowledge of Splunk, ELK or other log management tools.
  • Experience in Automated Deployments with Continuous Integration workflows.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment workflows.
  • Experience working in Scrum teams.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience working in Oncall rotation and interacting with a NOC.
