Hobsons is dedicated to working with Plan International to inspire others to join a movement calling for a fairer and more equal world for girls where females are free to learn, lead, decide and thrive.

Over the last 10 years Hobsons and Plan International have achieved real change for children in developing countries across Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

Highlights include:

  • Increasing child access to education in 12 countries
  • Improving learning environments for 5,400 children
  • Raising £480,000 for education development work 

The work Hobsons does on the behalf of Plan International is vital. Plan International works to improve girls’ access to education and to ensure that girls are less likely to leave school before completing their studies. It aims to ensure that every girl completes at least nine years of quality education.

To demonstrate our commitment to supporting access to education around the world, Hobsons is taking part on October 11 in Plan International’s girls takeover movement: International Day of the Girl.

Plan International’s girls takeover movement sees girls 'taking over' for the day influential roles at institutions and digital platforms of Plan International partner organisations across the globe. More than 100 takeovers with 200 participants are planned, and each take over aims to empower girls, increase their visibility, and inspire others to the join Plan International’s movement for girls' rights.

Hobsons is leading a digital takeover by hosting web articles and creating social media engagement to highlight Plan International’s work for female equality.  A global movement, more than 200 girls are taking over roles for the day across the world including a Nepalese girl becoming president of Nepal, a Bangladeshi girl taking over as the Mayor of Paris during a press conference, and a girl digitally taking over Plan International supporter, Marie Claire magazine, to highlight education challenges in her country. 

The date, October 11, has been a global date to celebrate the power of girls since the United Nations adopted it as International Day of the Girl in 2011. The need to celebrate female education is important. Worldwide 62 million girls are not in school because of their gender. Yet, girls' education is one of the best investments a country can make. An educated girl is less likely to marry and to have children whilst she is still a child, and is more likely to be literate, healthy, and survive into adulthood. Additionally, she is more likely to reinvest her income back into her family, community, and country.
