The Hobsons Education Advances Awards symbolize the innovation that is possible when an institution combines people, process, and technology to make a difference in the lives of students. Today, we’re excited to announce our award finalists in the areas of Admissions and Enrollment and Student Success and Advising.

The award winners in each category will be selected by a panel of esteemed, independent judges and will receive $2,500 for their institutions. The other two finalists in each category will receive $1,000 each for their institutions.

Admissions and Enrollment

California University of Pennsylvania

California University of Pennsylvania is a public, non-profit university within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Cal U implemented Hobsons’ suite of services, including Radius® by Hobsons, to create a single-source CRM solution for enrollment management, retention/persistency, at-risk advisement, technology integration, and data management. This has allowed the university, which is part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, to increase efficiencies in the recruitment lifecycle funnel and to improve conversions.

Colorado School of Mines (Golden, Colo.)

The graduate office at Colorado School of Mines converted its time-consuming paper application process to an electronic process to decrease the time between decision to acceptance. Using Hobsons’ ApplyYourself and AppReview, the graduate office reduced application processing time from several days to several hours.

Montana State University Northern (Havre, Mont.)

Montana State University-Northern is a small university (1,250 students) located in rural Montana. In 2015, the entire Montana State University system, referred to as One MSU, collaboratively pursued a partnership with Hobsons to implement the Radius CRM to solve data and communication challenges that were hindering recruitment efforts and measure their recruitment efforts. Radius has helped the Office of Admissions and Recruiting streamline its workflows and to be more strategic in its recruitment efforts.

Student Success and Advising

Guttman Community College (New York, N.Y.)

Guttman Community College struggled with advising and academic support challenges and found that its students who are underprepared for college-level work were not being well served. They had no system for capturing advising and academic support system data, limiting its ability to learn about effective practices to increase their student success strategies. Guttman adopted Starfish by Hobsons as part of its Integrated Planning and Advising for Student Success (IPASS) project to help students who arrive on campus under-prepared for college-level work. Starfish has contributed to students’ growth and increased faculty, staff, and advisors’ ability to communicate with students and colleagues to help students “connect to success.”

Morgan State University (Baltimore, Md.)

Morgan State University implemented the Starfish platform to support the Office of Student Success and Retention and the university’s retention program and to help increase student retention rates and persistence to graduation through early intervention and systematic tracking of undergraduate students. Starfish has allowed the university to provide higher-quality advising, introduce a more transparent and efficient method of early risk targeting and intervention, and improve student accountability.

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (Green Bay, Wis.)

At this two-year technical college, every employee is responsible for finding ways to help students master their courses, remain in college, and achieve a college credential. NWTC implemented Starfish to help weave the concept of student success into every facet of the student experience, improving course pass rates, student grades, and persistence toward graduation, and a rise in program persistence.

Congratulations to all our award finalists and we look forward to celebrating the winners on stage during the 2017 Hobsons University.
