Hobsons Teams Up With NAFSA to Deliver School Supplies to Nepalese Students

May 20, 2013

Cincinnati, OH - Having the right tools is necessary for children to succeed in education. In preparation for Hobsons’ annual trip with PLAN, the company will make a donation of 100 backpacks at NAFSA’s 65th Annual Conference and Expo in St. Louis, Missouri, May 26-31. With Nepal’s secondary school participation rate averaging out to 42 percent, Hobsons saw an opportunity to support those children by providing much-needed school supplies.

This effort, part of Hobsons’ ongoing partnership with PLAN, an international charity focusing on improving childhood education in the world’s most impoverished countries, aligns with Hobsons’ commitment to global education. Hobsons’ collaboration with PLAN enables its employees to travel to developing countries to build schools and facilities. For the last ten years, Hobsons has sent employees to a wide range of developing countries including Kenya, Laos, and Bolivia to provide adequate places of learning for children. Additionally, Hobsons offices raise funds to improve education within the communities where their employees work and live.

“Investing in children today to give them a chance at a brighter future is key to Hobsons’ vision. Our long-time partner, PLAN shares in our value of early childhood education for students globally. This month our partnership will provide basic school supplies and backpacks, which are not always accessible to Nepalese students,” states Craig Heldman, Hobsons’ chief executive officer. “Hobsons invites NAFSA conference attendees to visit booth 903 to write encouraging and inspirational messages to these children. These gifts truly make a difference for Nepalese children overall because each child deserves to achieve something great.”

NAFSA, the world’s largest nonprofit association dedicated to international education, proactively helps the professional development of U.S. college and university officials assisting and advising foreign students studying in the United States.
