If you flip through any economic textbook, you know that a skilled workforce is key to economic growth and sustainability.
However, in the U.S. we are faced with a key challenge of getting our students to finish high school. Seven hundred educators, policymakers, business leaders, and young people converge in Washington, D.C. for the 3rd Annual Grad Nation Summit, a campaign led by America’s Promise Alliance, to share progress and inspire even greater action to end the dropout crisis.
It was an amazing event filled with many aspiring local and national leaders making a difference to increase the graduation rate to 90 percent by 2020.
The central theme of the 2013 summit is “Realizing the Promise” with a focus on thinking differently and imagining success. The main highlight of the summit is the 2013 report update of Building a Grad Nation: Progress and Challenge in Ending the High School Dropout Epidemic.
If you didn’t get a chance to attend or follow on Twitter using the hashtag #gradnation2013, I created a summary of key points and trends in K-12 impacting high school graduation rates.
