Connect University Launches in the UK


Hobsons' first users' conference in the UK is a huge success

LONDON, May 19, 2010—Hobsons’ popular EMT users’ conference, Connect University, was held for the first time in the UK after running for six years in the US. The one-day event, held at the American Square Conference Center, London included over 130 attendees from 48 UK and one US institution offering their perspectives on managing student relationships throughout their journey from enquirer to current student.

The event began with keynote speaker, Lawrie Phipps, Program Manager, Emerging Technologies at JISC. Phipps’ thought-provoking message about digital trends ended with possible scenarios for universities looking to use technology to improve student engagement and internal processes.

Other presenters included Adrian Schiess, Director for Student Success and Retention at Xavier University, Ohio, USA who shared the success the university has had since implementing Retain, Hobsons’ Web-based early alert and strategic communication solution; staff from University of Bristol who discussed their implementation of ApplyYourself, Hobsons’ online application software; and University of Cumbria, presenting on maximising undergraduate enquirer engagement with Connect, Hobsons’ CRM technology.

Additionally, attendees at Connect U learnt about a number of new products including Retain, Mobile CRM, and Events & Interviews. Retain, Hobsons’ CRM for retention management, as well as Events & Interviews, online event management, are both new to the European market. The mobile application allows CRM users to access Connect or Retain on their mobile phones when they are away from the office.

Attendees described the conference as focused and providing useful insights to products as well as recruitment and retention strategies. Clients also found the conference a valuable opportunity for networking.
