Community Responsibility

At Hobsons, we recognize that there are young people around the world who do not have the choices and the educational opportunities that we take for granted. So that's why in 2000, Hobsons made a commitment to help those who cannot rely on an automatic right to education.

Every Hobsons employee around the world is involved in a wide range of fundraising events: from traditional bake sales, picnics, and dress-down days to bungee jumps, skydives, head shaving and Hobsons Olympics... all in the name of charity. Our employees then head out into their local communities throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia—donating money and time to local schools and other organizations that give kids access to education.

But it doesn't stop there—we also believe in the philosophy of operating locally and giving back globally. We are proud to support Plan, an international charity organization whose efforts contribute to building schools and educational facilities for children in some of the world's poorest countries. Hobsons employees around the world travel to communities in Namibia, Nicaragua, Borneo, Guatemala, Indonesia, Kenya, Vietnam and Bolivia. These ambassadors have visited each of the projects—building vital school facilities for needy children, attending the opening of the newly built schools, and distributing books, pens, and other materials. They are also asked to do some teaching in the schools—but it is usually our people who learn the biggest lessons.

This year, Hobsons' Plan fundraising efforts are focused in the Techiman community of central Ghana. Hobsons representatives from offices across the globe will be raising funds and traveling to Ghana to help build a new primary school block with six classrooms, a library, and a teacher's office; construct a water storage facility; raise funds for computer equipment, and more.
