Hobsons is seeking a talented and energetic Software Engineer in Test (SET) to join our growing product development team in our Arlington, VA office. SET will design the testing framework and write code to examine and validate large-scale software development and deployments. As an SET, you partner with software engineers and QA to create and code tests concurrently with product development using Test Driven methodologies. You build tools that help developers be more productive, write better code and test it themselves. The SET at Hobsons will be involved in significant development projects and refactoring existing code for our market-leading K-12 SaaS application, which is built on an open source LAMP architecture.  We are seeking candidates that have strong development/test automation experience and who are passionate about the latest industry trends and innovations occurring in web based products.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Design testing infrastructure and build automated tests suites for our large-scale web application
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers and QA to automate testing using emerging technologies
  • Leverage team development standards, patterns and design principles in daily activities
  • Analyze and decompose a software system and articulate a strategy to test it
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, user experience, and QA during discovery, design and development
  • Stay current on technology trends and identify ways to innovate our products in the education space

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum 3-5  years experience in Web Application development and/or test automation experience, 5 years experience preferred
  • Experience with test-driven development and best practices
  • 5 years experience building and using tools for automation preferred –
  • Build and Dependency Systems: Rake, Ant, Maven, Composer
  • Testing Frameworks: Behat, Cucumber, PHPUnit, JUnit, RSpec
  • Testing Drivers: Selenium WebDriver (2.0+) , JMeter, Sahi, Watir
  • Web application technologies: Javascript, JSON, Restful APIs, SOAP Services, PHP and/or Java and/or Ruby
  • Commercial Tools: Sauce Labs
  • SQL experience
  • Experience using version control such as Subversion or GIT
  • Very strong technical competence and background delivering projects on time
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to shifting project requirements
  • Comprehension and focus on cross-browser compatibility
  • Agile scrum experience is a plus


All candidates will be required to complete a code challenge.
