Quality Control Specialist (Arlington, VA)

Job Summary


The Quality Control Specialist designs test specifications, test cases, and test plans based on the requirements developed by Product Management and User Experience teams.  The Quality Control Specialist also manages the execution of testing via coordination with automated test engineers and execution of manual tests to validate product development and to ensure that delivered software products meet specified requirements and high expectations of quality.

We are currently hiring Quality Control Specialists in our Arlington, VA office.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Review (and contribute to, when necessary) the design of functional requirements in collaboration with Product Management and User Experience teams.
  • Develop test cases, test plans, and acceptance criteria based on business and functional requirements.
  • Provide specifications to Test Engineers for the development of automated tests.
  • Conduct iteration testing during development as modules are completes.
  • Perform manual validation, exploratory, regression, and other testing on developed software products.  Identify, analyze, and report issues.
  • Coordinate the testing effort across the Product Quality, Test Engineering, and User Experience teams.
  • Provide progress reports for all assigned projects and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Contribute to Product Quality process planning and documentation.
  • Develop detailed understanding of how and why internal and external clients use the applications.  Become an expert on product features and functionality.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with Professional Services and Product teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2-4 years of software quality assurance or analysis experience preferred
  • Previous experience working in the K-12 market or with Naviance and other Hobsons K-12 products preferred
  • Knowledge of product development processes, software test planning, and manual test execution highly preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and proven track record of meeting deadlines and timely delivery of all project related deliverables
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability define and establish processes and flexibility to redefine and adapt processes in a rapidly changing environment
  • Passion for educational software products and technology, especially web applications
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and web applications
  • Ability to grasp broad product/business strategy and technical product details
  • Ambition, drive and ability to learn quickly and adapt to change
