Product Manager K-12/HE (Arlington, VA)

Job Summary

Experienced product strategist with a track record for envisioning new product capabilities from initial concept to successful delivery and market adoption. This role has a key responsibility for guiding the future of the National Transcript Center (NTC) product platform, bridging K-12 and higher education by enabling the capture and exchange of transcripts, recommendations, and other documents that support students’ progression through the education process. The Product Manager will work with clients (including SEAs, LEAs, and higher education institutions), an internal steering committee representing the K-12 and higher education divisions of Hobsons, user researchers, product development staff, and other stakeholders to drive product innovation that creates sustained competitive advantage and commercial value. The ideal candidate can blend a passion for the transformative power of education and working with technology.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for market needs analysis, product vision and strategy, roadmap creation, and requirements gathering
  • Develop product ideas and investment cases
  • Own the product P&L – monitoring key performance indicators for usage and commercial success and delivering budgeted ROI on product development investments
  • Coordinate closely with other product managers in the K-12 and HE divisions that own product roadmaps for services (e.g., Naviance eDocs) that rely on NTC capabilities
  • Engage closely with customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Own and drive feature delivery end-to-end: writing user stories, working with user experience to create prototypes, engaging with beta testers, working with development, documentation, and quality assurance teams to deliver a marketable product on time
  • Monitor the development status of product requirements throughout the product lifecycle process and raise risks and mitigations to leadership to ensure timely product delivery
  • Translate product features into customer benefits and develop messaging and positioning for our sales organization and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Professional Services, Marketing and Sales to provide information about upcoming releases and ensure coordinated product launch plans are in place
  • Represent Hobsons as a domain and product expert at customer interactions and industry events
  • Analyze potential partnerships to enhance the product line
  • Monitor and participate in customer idea forums
  • Understand competitive landscape and industry trends
  • Serve as a trusted internal product expert for sales, marketing and client services
  • Participate in professional organizations to gain industry knowledge regarding trends or other factors impacting the product line and to make sure the company’s corporate interests are represented

 

Minimum Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • At least 3 years experience in Product Management
  • Ability to blend creativity with analytical problem solving
  • Ability to grasp broad product/business strategy and technical product details
  • Ability to collaborate well and negotiate professionally with internal stakeholders, including executive leadership
  • Passion for education
  • Deep understanding of software products and technology, especially web applications
  • Experience as a product manager, product marketing manager or business analyst in a software business
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills, including group presentation experience
  • Knowledge of Pragmatic Marketing framework a plus
