K-12 Consultant - Presale Focus (Arlington, VA)

Job Summary

K-12 Consultants are responsible for ensuring successful implementation and rollout of Hobsons K-12 solutions and add-ons with schools and school districts. The consultant serves as a technical and business advisor who employs best practices and project management methodology to guide members to effectively use the solution to meet business requirements and ensure member satisfaction.  In this role, the consultant is responsible for mitigating project risk by managing the project plan, communications plan, tasks, deliverables, timelines, and coordinating resources in adherence to the terms outlined in service level agreements and/or statements of work.

In addition to the management of a geographical territory of consulting accounts, the presales-focused consultant develops resources and processes to support pre-sales scoping and positioning.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  •     Pre-sales Support:
  •         Participate in sales meetings and presentations with potential district clients and coordinate other consultants’ participation
  •         Scope professional services for RFP responses and sales proposals
  •         Develop best practices for presales scoping and positioning to be utilized by all consultants
  •         Create custom materials for presentations and proposals as requested by account executives
  •         Field technical and implementation questions beyond the knowledge base of account executives
  •     Implementation Services:
  •         Serve as the single point of contact to stakeholders on communications, decision-making, and change management procedures related to the project
  •         Coordinate availability of company resources needed for successful implementation including professional development and support
  •         Develop, maintain, and monitor the project plan and scope of work, including tasks, timelines, resources and milestones
  •         Identify issues, concerns and project risks and mitigate those risks
  •         Execute the communication plan including regularly scheduled conference calls and meetings to monitor project activities, attainment of benchmarks, and to establish next steps
  •         Communicate in a timely manner to member management and decision makers on project status and progress of activities and tasks
  •         Identify additional professional services and/or product opportunities to expand member relationship and usage


Minimum Qualifications

  •     Bachelor’s degree required
  •     5+ years consulting experience of which at least 3 years are project management experience preferred
  •     Prior experience working in sales or sales support within the education industry preferred
  •     Ability to travel (50% or more)
  •     Prefer candidates who have the following skills:
  •     Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  •     Experience with project management and implementation methodologies
  •     Excellent listening and communication skills, both written and oral
  •     Strong organizational skills and proven track record of meeting deadlines and timely delivery of all project related deliverables
  •     Ability to clearly understand member expectations and manage project scope
  •     Ability to build and deliver presentations to all levels of the member organization and effectively explain technical concepts in simple, understandable manner including the ability to think on your feet and respond to questions from internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels
  •     Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities while meeting firm deadlines
  •     Ambition, drive and ability to learn quickly and adapt to change
  •     Agility with regard to projects that require a quick turnaround and may cause other projects to be reprioritized
  •     Proficiency in MS Office and Web applications
  •     Understanding of the K-12 marketplace including funding sources, district hierarchies, important technologies, and major vendors
  •     Experience with Naviance a plus
