Global Controller (Cincinnati, OH)
Job Summary
Hobsons is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and flexible leader to join a fast-growing and exciting organization with offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Malaysia. Headquartered in Cincinnati and with a significant presence in Washington D.C., London, and Melbourne, Hobsons provides high schools, colleges, and universities with content, technology, and services to assist in student retention, enrollment, and marketing.
Reporting to the CFO, the Global Controller for Hobsons is a key leadership role in the Finance organization. The successful candidate will have broad scope of responsibilities and will enjoy the independence and mandate to develop and enhance the capabilities of the global accounting organization. Primary responsibilities will include all aspects of accounting, the reporting of actuals to our parent company, and maintaining a best-in-class control environment.
The role will be based at our headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Setting standards, direction, KPIs, and priorities for the global accounting organization
- Fostering a team environment for the global accounting function; recruiting, retaining, and training top talent to manage the growth of the business
- Maintaining and enhancing quality of all aspects of accounting, ensuring global compliance with IFRS principles and Company policies
- Global business owner of relevant financial systems and capabilities, including the GL, AR, AP, revenue recognition, fixed assets and capital expenses
- Managing all reporting and consolidation activities with Hobsons’ parent organization, acting as the primary contact for all questions on monthly results
- Leading and coordinating the global close process
- Leading all audit activities in the United States, and coordinating audit activities worldwide
- Ensuring proper compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including income and sales tax
- Developing and promoting a metrics-driven culture
- Optimizing and maintaining the global control environment
- Preparation and sign-off of consolidated financial statements and control checklists
- Design and optimize processes to most efficiently achieve business objectives
- Subject matter expert in policy and process
- Escalation point for contract, client, and vendor issues
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in corporate accounting, preferably in medium or large businesses with global reach
- Demonstrated experience leading an accounting organization with successful results
- CPA required, IFRS experience preferred
- Experience working abroad a plus
- Demonstrable track record as change agent
- Self-motivated, independent leader
- Strong communicator to a variety of audiences
- Experience working in a matrixed environment
- Comfort with multi-tasking and time-sensitive deliverables
- Familiarity with various transactional and reporting systems highly desired
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
